Privacy Policy

Hey Twin Labs, Inc. ("Hey Twin," "we," "us," or "our") built the Hey Twin iOS app to help you create and capture AR memories. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it — both in the app and on this website.

Overview

Hey Twin is designed around on-device processing. AI background removal and AR rendering happen locally on your iPhone whenever possible — your photos are not uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly enable Memory Album cloud backup or contact our support team.

Camera & Photo Library permissions

Hey Twin requests two iOS permissions:

  • Camera: used to power AR Twin placement in real time. Camera frames are processed live on-device and are not recorded or transmitted unless you tap capture.
  • Photo Library: used to let you import source photos and save finished memories back to your library. We only access photos you explicitly select.

You can review or revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings > Hey Twin. Revoking a permission may limit core app functionality.

Data we collect

  • Account data: email address and display name, if you create an account for Memory Album sync.
  • Content you create: Twins, AR scenes, and memory photos, stored locally and optionally synced to iCloud if you enable backup.
  • Device & diagnostic data: device model, iOS version, app version, and crash logs, used to fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Purchase data: processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit; we receive only a confirmation that a purchase was completed.
  • Website data: standard web analytics (pages visited, referrer, approximate location) when you browse heytwinapp.com.

How we use your data

We use the data above to:

  • Provide and improve core app functionality (AI cutouts, AR placement, Memory Album sync)
  • Diagnose crashes and performance issues
  • Respond to support requests
  • Send product updates, if you opt in to our newsletter
  • Meet legal and security obligations

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your photos to train AI models without explicit, separate consent.

Analytics

We use privacy-conscious, aggregated analytics inside the app (e.g., feature usage counts, crash rates) to understand how Hey Twin is used and where to improve it. Analytics data is anonymized or pseudonymized wherever technically feasible and is never linked to the content of your photos.

Cookies (website)

heytwinapp.com uses essential cookies to remember your theme preference (light/dark mode) and, optionally, analytics cookies to understand site traffic. You can clear or block cookies at any time through your browser settings; doing so will not affect the iOS app.

Third-party services

Hey Twin relies on the following categories of third-party services:

  • Apple: App Store distribution, in-app purchases (StoreKit), and optional iCloud sync.
  • Crash & analytics tooling: aggregate, anonymized diagnostics to improve stability.
  • Email delivery: for support correspondence and optional newsletter delivery.

Each third party processes data under its own privacy policy and only receives the minimum data necessary to provide its service.

Storage & security

Locally stored content stays in your app's sandboxed storage and is subject to iOS's standard device encryption. Synced data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We retain account data for as long as your account is active, and diagnostic logs for a limited rolling window.

Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app (Settings > Account), or by emailing [email protected].

Children's privacy

Hey Twin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be announced in-app or via email.
