Today, Hey Twin is officially available on the App Store. After more than a year of building, testing, and refining, we’re excited to put it in your hands.
What Hey Twin does
Hey Twin lets you lift a person out of any photo using on-device AI background removal, then place that “Twin” into your real-world camera view using augmented reality. The result is a brand-new photo that puts the two of you together — even if you never actually stood in the same room.
Maybe it’s a grandparent who couldn’t make the holidays. A college roommate who lives a continent away. Or a younger version of yourself, dropped into today’s living room for a moment that bridges twenty years in a single frame.
That’s the idea behind the name: Hey Twin — a quick way to call someone back into the picture.
Why we built it
Photo editing apps have always let you cut and paste people into scenes. What they haven’t done well is make it feel real — correct scale, correct lighting, correct perspective. Most composite photos look obviously composited.
We set out to fix that with three pieces working together:
- On-device AI background removal that handles fine detail — hair, glasses, jewelry — without the halo artifacts typical cutout tools leave behind.
- AR scene understanding that reads the room you’re standing in: surfaces, scale, and lighting direction.
- Automatic lighting and shadow matching, so your Twin doesn’t just sit on top of the scene — it sits in it.
Getting started
Creating your first memory takes four steps, and we cover the full walkthrough on our How It Works page. The short version:

- Let Hey Twin create your Twin automatically
- Open your camera and place the Twin in AR
- Capture the memory
Free accounts can create up to 10 memories and place a single Twin per scene. Hey Twin Pro — a one-time purchase, no subscription — unlocks Multi Twins, unlimited Memory Album storage, and high-resolution export. Details are on our Pricing page.
